My name is Lydia Bangura. I’m a vocalist and music theorist who is currently researching music theory pedagogy, the intersection of performance and analysis, and the performance of Black feminism in American classical music.

I’m currently pursuing my doctorate in music theory at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
As a creative, I crave spaces where I can explore all of the different functions of music research: research as play, collaboration, social justice, and mentorship. In creating my own public space, I hope to have fun and prepare for my future career, as well as investigate my complicated relationship with academia as a Black woman.
The purpose of this site is to expand my network, practice speaking and writing, receive feedback, think through ideas, and document my progression and experiences at Michigan.
